Step 4: Confirmation

Upon acceptance of proposed quotation, an insurance proposal form will be sent to fill up with signature and to forward back to us to proceed for insurance renewal. A photocopy of the driving license and identity card is required.

 

Step 5: Payment

Cheque payment is required upon submitting the insurance proposal form. Cheque is advisable to issue direct to the respective insurance companies to avoid any discrepancy.

Insurer will revise periodically your motor insurance premium due to the high claims in motor insurance and the premium has been risen substantially. Hence, it will benefit one to obtain a few quotations before renew with the current insurer.

Advisable at least 1 month so that you have sufficient time to renew your road tax and car inspection if require.

4. How many type of coverage?
Third Party Plan covers for the driver's legal liability for damage to property belonging to other persons as well as the driver's legal liability for death of or bodily injury to passengers and third parties caused by his negligence.

Third Party Fire & Theft Plan covers addition to the cover provided by the "Third Party". The policy can be extended to accidental loss or damage by fire and/or theft of the vehicle and its accessories and spare parts.

Comprehensive/First Party Plan is the widest type of cover that includes all the covers mentioned above plus accidental damage to the insured's own vehicle. The additional cover provides personal accident benefits for the driver and medical expenses arising from the motor accident. Nevertheless, it does not include riot, strike and civil commotion, flood and windstorm and personal accident benefits to the passengers and legal liability of passengers for acts of negligence.

5. What is No-Claim Discount (NCD)?
If you have not made a claim for a year or more, you are entitled to a No-Claim Discount (NCD). The NCD reduces the premium for the following year.

6. What to do after a motor accident under MCF?
Under the new Motor Claims Framework (MCF), below are abstracted from General Insurance Association (GIA)'s MCF presentation.

If anyone has been hurt in the accident, call the police immediately. Otherwise, a police report should be made within 24 hours of any accident that involves:
1. Damage to a government vehicle or property.
2. A foreign-registered vehicle
3. A hit-an-run incident

Exchange particulars of involved parties including Name, NRIC/FIN, Telephone Number, Address and Insurer. Take note of the vehicle numbers and do take digital photographs of your accident vehicle which can be included during the e-filing of accident reports later.

Call your insurer's hotline for a tow truck or for further advice on the accident.

Report and bring your accident vehicle (whether damaged or not) to the approved reporting centre/authorized workshop within 24 hours or by the next working day.

Avoid all unauthorized tow-truck operators or repair workshops.
The parties involved should exchange particulars, including their names, identity card numbers, telephone numbers, addresses, insurer and vehicle number. If there is witness, note their contact details. If you have a digital camera or camera phone, take photographs of the accident, the vehicles and the scene.
